The results were in Wednesday night sand it was a whole lot of nervousness on my part for Melinda since she is so close to making to the finale. But I won’t get into that part until later on.

American Idol decided to put a little spin on the introduction of the show. Instead of using Ryan, the ‘guest host’ for a few seconds was the lovable Duff drinking character, Homer Simpson. It seems that he doesn’t watch the show quite often due to his busy schedule and assume several contestants was left when there was only three.

The results show was filled with recaps of last night’s performances, the contestants back in their own hometown to be greeted from fans and family and much more. First, Jordin went back to Arizona, Blake in Washington and Melinda in Tennessee where she went to her church where her parents was by her side. Also she’d went to the state’s capitol with a welcome home message from the governor and were presented with a ‘Melinda DooLittle Way’ street name of her own. Among the countless fans, love of family and church members from the congregation, Melinda was very emotional to be back home and receive the outpouring love from everyone.

Idol fans got to see a familiar face from the past season- actually it will take another glance to see the guy who left third place last year. Ex finalist, Elliott Yamin, sported anew hairdo, similar to a Josh Groban style as he sang ‘Wait for You’ off his debut album. Elliott’s performance was terrific and it was good to hear his beautiful voice on stage again; this time without any pressure.

A flashback of the contestants as children were presented in this week’s Ford commercial, of the three having fun in their bedroom and coming out the room at their age. Blake, Melinda and Jordin hops into a car and drive off to an ‘American Idol’ premier walking the red carpet. That was a cute commercial.

Maroon 5 performs their new song on stage. ‘Makes Me Wonder’. It was only the other day that Blake sung one of their own tunes “This Love’ and got rave reviews on it. Now after all the performances, clips and agonizing wait, Ryan finally reveals who will make the final two. Jordin makes the final cut after 16 millions votes counted in for all three of the contestants. The only two left is Blake and Melinda. Many people vote for the two for different reasons, Blake for his ‘beat boxing effects and Melinda’s foe her powerhouse vocal.

Sadly, Melinda was cut from the show and honestly, I was shocked and upset as she is my definite favorite on the show. Never in the bottom three at all but is booted off in a moments of seconds. But at the same time, I am very happy for her. She’d made it this far in the competition and the bright side is that other past finalists before her have gotten the boot early and have successful careers, Chris Daughtry, Elliott Yamin and don’t forget, Jennifer Hudson who’d won an Oscar. There are many opportunities waiting for Melinda and it is a guaranteed that she will be a superstar one day. I will continue to support Melinda whatever her career takes her.

Well Good luck, Blake and Jordin one of you guys will be the next American Idol. But it’ll been a lot more fun if Melinda were one of the last two standing.

The remaining three were left to compete Tuesday night, but only two will secure a spot in next week’s grand finale. Meanwhile, Blake, Jordin and Melinda have to push harder to win over the judges and voters as they’d sang three different songs, one from the judges, the producers and the song of their choice. Also the trio got a chance to visit their hometown. While Black and Jordin did their own thing with the songs they’d performed, Melinda entertained wonderfully throughout her three performances, not skipping a beat with them.

A clip was shown of Melinda back in her hometown in Tennessee with a crowd and Mayor of the city to announce the song ‘I Believe’ from Whitney Houston; Randy picked for Melinda. With Melinda’s strong voice, it matched perfectly with the song and her rendition of ‘I Believe’ was sung on the same level as Whitney Houston. The judges all had rave reviews for her performance, Randy said it is a difficult song to sing, but Melinda can do it, Paula think it was fantastic and the best performance of the season, Simon compared her performance to a boxing match and said, round one for Melinda.

Before her second performance, Ryan read a fan letter that questioned who was Melinda Idol growing up- Melinda answered her Mom, saying that she and her mother is the closest of friends. Awww… it’s nice to know the two share a great motherly-daughter love. Now we’re past the gushy moment, on to Melinda’s second performance from the producer’s choice, Ike and Tina Turner ‘Nutbush City Limits’. Apparently Melinda channeled Tina Turner, vocally and attitude alike, blending both together with a little rock and soul. Randy says Melinda need to put that song in her record drawer, Paula simply tells her that everyone loves her and Simon loves the side of Melinda when she performs the way she did with ‘Nutbush City Limits’.

The final song Melinda chose to sing was ‘I’m A Woman’ by Peggy Lee. Melinda put more personality and attitude than ever in this song, letting us all know that she is a W-O-M-A-N! The judges gave Melinda their props one more time, as Paula claimed that Melinda is stepping out in the spotlight but Simon seems to have his mind on Melinda ‘little striptease’ than the performance altogether. Melinda is coming out a rising star and proven herself a well-deserved spot in the finals after hard work, consistency, likeability, and raw talent. Put it all together and we have a sensational performer and this describes her thoroughly.

With the season slowing down with only a couple of weeks till someone will be crowned as the next American Idol, another contestant makes an exit off the show. Whoever that is, ( announced later in this post) he or she will be joined along with other nine contestants for the American Idol tour that will be start touring this summer. The contestants had fun the previous night singing several Bee Gees songs, and receiving helpful advice from guest mentor, Barry Gibb. The judges on the other hand, were critical of LaKisha, Blake and Melinda’s performances each saying different about what they expect from them during this time on the show.

Before hearing the results, singer Pink performed her song, ‘Who Knew’. The contestants did a rendition of ‘You Really Got Me’, as the foursome escapes from crazy fans following them wherever they go, at times leaving Blake behind. The group also singed classic Bee Gees songs together, ‘Emotions’, ‘Too Much Heaven, ‘Guilty’ and among a few others.

Taking a break off their hectic schedule, the finalists went to a screening of the sequel of ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’, and got to meet with the director of the film. The stars of the movie, Jessica Alba and Ioan Gruffudd were on sitting in the audience.

Viewers also got to know some background on the contestants other than what we knew as aspiring singers-pictures when they were children, family portraits and those who inspired each of them to be where they are today. Melinda mentioned how she learned to open up to music when visiting her father often and says how she loved to dream big. She definitely got a bigger dream than she hoped for as being one of the top contestants in this season.

Legendary singer Barry Gibb performed on the Idol stage singing one of his own past hits ‘To Love Somebody’, looking and sounding well. But the end is near for someone to go home, thankfully, Melinda and Jordin stays but as much as I like LaKisha and Blake, it was no surprise the two ends up in the bottom two. Both Blake and LaKisha struggled with their performance, as LaKisha sung ‘Stayin Alive’ with a much slower tempo than the way the original is made and Blake put too much emphasis with ‘You Should Be Dancing’ with the beat-boxing effect and the a-a-a-a-a-a-a that made it his downfall. But fans forgiven Blake and he made it through while LaKisha went home. I will miss her big voice and humble personality on the show. She made it this far in the competition and that alone is something she should be proud of.

The show is winding down to only four finalists left as they take on another week performing the songs of the Bee Gees. The British band found their success not only in their own native country but in the United States as well, making hit after hit, especially during the 70s ‘disco years’. Bees Gees front man, Barry Gibb, songwriter, producer and has collaborated with Diana Ross, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand after his success with his own group and continued later on to write songs for many artists. The contestants got to meet Barry and he gave his own helpful advice for the Idol hopefuls and claimed that he will have a ball being on the show.

But during Melinda’s rehearsal, Barry wasn’t sure if Melinda could pull off “Love You Inside and Out’ because it is a man song and is sang in falsetto. At the end, he’d believed Melinda pulled it off and jokingly said he sounded like woman himself when singing. Melinda stepped on stage singing ‘Love You Inside and Out’ and she’d sing it as if she were talking to her man. The vocals was on point, her heart and soul was in the song. There is no other way to describe though the judges had a different perspective.

According to Randy, her performance didn’t make him jump up and down in his seat, Paula wanted Melinda to wow her but the vocals are consistent. Simon wasn’t impressed and expected to hear something better. But better it came when Melinda had another round to sing ‘How Can You Mend a Broken Heart’. While singing the tune with Barry, Melinda wanted to cross out ‘loser’ because she wants to win the whole show.

Melinda looked classically beautiful wearing a nice fitted dress and worked twice as hard to win the judges and guess what, she did! Randy said it was a great vocal with a beautiful ending. Paula says she is a throwback to Stephanie Mills but still want Melinda to surprise everyone with something different. Simon loved it, especially the second half and said she’d earned herself a spot in the finals. It seemed that Melinda’s song choice ‘affected’ her first performance but did great overall in the second one. There is no doubt that she will be going anywhere, expect well on her way to becoming the winner very soon.

The six Idol hopefuls sang Bon Jovi classic songs Tuesday night. But only four will make it at the end as two people will not make the cut to next week’s show. A small recap were shown about each contestants’ performances, Phil’s turned out to be his best, LaKisha shines again after a couple of bad weeks, Blake shown originality, Jordin and Chris made it their best while Melinda showed sassiness. But the highlight of the show was Simon and LaKisha sharing a nice kiss on the lips. Hmm…I wondered what Simon’s girlfriend thinks of that. But that is for another show.

Anyway, ‘Idol’ raised 70 million dollars from ‘Idol Gives Back’, thanks to celebrities, other contributors and us viewers at home that helped make a difference. Some past ‘Idol’ winners, Fantasia and Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks were part of the fundraiser to donate more funds for poverty-stricken children in Africa.

R&B singer Robin Thicke (one my favorite singers by the way) performed his hit song ‘Lost Without U’. For some reason, I believed he kind of resembled Simon. Next is shown is the Ford commercial with the contestants singing ‘Paint It Black’ as they drive around in Ford car looking at them participating in a circus/vaudeville act with Blake dressed as a magician and Jordin as a mermaid, while they all dress in black with Phil wearing a top hat.

Now the fun starts to slowly end as one person with the lowest votes is going home. Melinda, LaKisha and Phil are asked to come on stage. Melinda and LaKisha are safe but Phil is going home. Honestly, I did not see that coming as I thought Phil did a great job with ‘Blaze of Glory’- his last performance on the stage proved that he deserved another round. Second elimination round began with Jordin, Chris and Blake. Jordin is safe and the two left standing is Blake and Chris, but the guys have to wait it out after Bon Jovi performs his new song, ‘(You Want to) Make a Memory’. Bon Jovi said each contestant done a fantastic job and thanked Idol for letting him is part of the show, also he announced that the band official tour starts in January.

Back to Chris and Blake, the two best friends who made it to the top six. Chris who been in the bottom three before, is booted off the show. The Justin Timberlake-like singer ends the show with ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’. Everyone gathered around Chris for a group hug as they said their goodbyes. Only four remains and one becomes closer to be crowned the next Idol.

Each of the contestants had a lucky break from last week’s result show when it was announced they were safe. But tonight everyone has to put their best effort in the competition as finalists prepared for the theme, “Celebrate music of Bon Jovi’. Legendary rock band Bon Jovi has played their music all over the world and successfully sold over 120 million albums.

The band now makes their appearance on ‘Idol’, and there were not only one, but two guests’ mentors, keyboardist David Brian and lead singer Bon Jovi. Before the rehearsal, Bon Jovi gave a little advice on how to perform and sing a song, saying that to make a song your own and also a artists is telling a story to everyone when they are singing.

Before the ‘Idols’ sing, we see a couple of familiar faces in the audience, the top 32 contestant, Antonella Barbara and the top 12 finalist, Gina Glocksen, which Ryan took a second to say hello to. While the rock theme proved to be tough for a couple of contestants and naturally good for others, Melinda brought out her hidden rock side on “Have a Nice Day”. Melinda wasn’t sure that she can rock but Bon Jovi reassured her she has the pipes but to need ‘rock it’ and take it to church. Her rehearsal performance was so good that even Bon Jovi himself wanted to add her to band. Seems like a compliment for Melinda who is indeed a great powerhouse vocalist anyway.

And she sure enough to it to church and rock it from beginning to end with ‘Have a Nice Day’, hitting those high notes perfectly and bringing a bit of spunk to her performance. And thankfully none of the judges had bad comments about Melinda though Randy said it was a good performance, though not a best one but brought out a Tina Turner attitude, Paula asked Melinda how it feel to be a rock star, Melinda wasn’t sure and Paula told her she is one, Simon agreed with Randy’s comment on Tina turner attitude and says Melinda vocally in a different league than everyone else tonight.

It seems that Melinda can sing any genre of music and it turns out beautifully. Now that is what a true singer can do.

On Wednesday night American Idol usually has the result show, but tonight will be a bit different. “Idol Gives Back’ finally kicks off today with numerous actors and singers performing on stage to raise the awareness of social and economic problems existing in Africa. Last night, viewers also got the chance do their part to help by voting. Now that the votes been tally, later we know who is going home and the five people who have another round in the competition.

But first, comedienne Ellen Degeneres hosted from the Walt Disney concert hall in LA. Among the celebrities that perform were Earth, Wind and Fire, Roscoe Flats, Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson Annie Lennox. During the charity special, Ryan shoed footage of New Orleans nearly three years ago, when they’d held the A.I auditions. Only a year later, Katrina strike and in the same building Idol hopefuls’ audition in, many Katrina victims were placed.

Next the six finalists sang ‘Time to Care’ a song written and produced by the great Quincy Jones. The contestants wore all white while singing their group song together. Actor Benn Stiller shoed off his wonderful signing abilities for the cameras while a guy in the background told him eight-thousand dollars were raised so far. Meanwhile, Ryan and Simon went to a tiny hut-like place where two children reside. The kids parents had died and the eldest 12 year old boy became a caretaker for his little sister.

A little break was from the charity event as Ryan began to call out who is safe. Melinda went first and was told she was safe! Another week on the show for her to get even better than before. Next thgs is shown is Paula going to Boys and Girls Club, the kids do variety of hobbies, such as painting, playing ping-pong, basketball and more. The program gives the children some type of happiness and less reminder of the problems many face at home.

To put a little humor on the show, actor Jack Black were a temporary Idol contestant singing, Seal’s ‘A Kiss from the Rose. Randy and Paula hated it; Simon says Black singing a lot better than Sanjaya. But the Seal LOVED his performance! But speaking of performance, Idol finalist, Blake was told he is safe. Another celebrity that went to Africa is past Idol winner Carrie Underwood, singing to the children, and “I’ll Stand by You. She also volunteer to help the kids while on her journey there.

Back in America, there is a problem with literacy and Idol took us to a small county where many adults were illiterate and hope that their children will get the help they never had. ‘Save the Children’ is a program that teaches kids to learn to read at an early age.

More throughout the show, a Ford commercial is shown with the contestants singing, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, they all were in a hot red vehicle sitting in drive-in while listening to many celebs lip-synch to Bee Gees ‘Staying Alive’. The singing celebrities were Dr. Phil, LeBron James, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Goldie Hawn, including Ryan and many others.

The results where shown again, Phil safe and LaKisha is well. Only two remains- Jordin and Chris, like Ryan said a total shocker. Before the show ended Celine Dion sang a “duet”, ‘If I Can Dream’
with Elvis Pressley. For the final time, we’re back to the results. Either Chris or Jordin is going home. Both of the singers did great on last night show, and it will be horrible to know either will be leaving Idol for good. But the good news is, neither is not and everybody is safe! Of course there is no way for someone to leave on a night like this, it will be tasteless. Anyway, a special clip were shown before the results of children saying ‘thank you.

Bono of U2 was the guest mentor for the contestants and told his own story of how he’d got involved in helping the people in Africa. With this tearkjerker Idol special, the show ends on a much happier note as the finalists sang ‘American Prayer’.

The competition is soon drawing to a close in one more month as there is only six contestants performing Tuesday night. According to Ryan, tonight’s show is a special one- since it is mainly focused on ‘Idol Gives Back’, the charity event which helps those in impoverish surroundings, particularly in Africa. The theme of the week is ‘Songs That Inspired” where each contestant chooses a song that drew inspiration to them. Before the finalists performs, Ryan shows more footage of ‘Idol Gives Back’ when Ryan and Simon both went to Africa where the people sadly lives in poor conditions and many people were seen treated for malaria, one of the deadliest disease in Africa.

The next clip shown is Randy, Paula and Ryan indivually goes to a city in America to see those affected by a serious crisis, one way or the other. Randy traveled back to his hometown in Louisiana, to see the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, consoling those affected by the hurricane. Next is Kentucky where there is ongoing problem illiteracy among children, both Ryan and Paula goes to Atlanta (Ryan’s hometown) to fight the seriousness of homelessness. To take a break off the charity pieces that were shown, Melinda is the second contestant to sing after Chris’ wonderful performance. Melinda choose to sing, ‘There Will Come A Day ‘ by Faith Hill- Melinda reason to pick the song is because in her opinion the song reflects on the problems that exist in America but there is hope for tomorrow.

Melinda poured her heart on the song, singing every note with feeling and passion and definitely drew inspiration to the song. The girl gives an amazing performance every week without missing a beat and earned another top spot once again. As the audience applauded with enthusiasm, Randy don’t know what else to say; just believed she finished another outstanding singing tonight, Paula says no one is like Melinda and she is just magical Simon laughed and told Melinda could she not look surprise, (she didn’t) and mentioned it was not a copycat performance but original, incredible and vocal master class. Ryan presented another footage of ‘Idol Charity’; Ryan went to a feeding center where many orphanages were malnourished, but thankfully, many lives are saved where one-hundred and fifty children are fed a day and also have the opportunity to have a education and a start to a bright future. Simon went to ‘American Second Harvest’ in Los Angeles, Simon says it one of the best places he’d been in America, many volunteers take time out to help people in poverty by donating can goods and other non-perish food. Simon commented on the warmness of the people at A.S.H and said he had no idea that such problems exist in America.

As every Idol contestant did their part in participating for the ‘Idol Gives Back’ in their own way, us viewers at home to do our part which is to vote, which we all can vote by two different numbers for each finalist. As Ryan says, one vote can make a difference.

It’s time to say goodbye for another Idol contestant once again. But before the journey for one of them ends tonight, we are treated with clips from fans about their favorite Idol singer, a recap of last night show and a Martina McBride performance and among other things.

Since Tuesday night show, word spread around the Internet about Simon comments on Chris’ performance and Simon wanted to set the record clear after a debate went on about whether or not Simon was rolling his eyes after Chris sends his sympathy to those affected in the Virginia Tech tragedy since he has friends living in Virginia as well. Apparently the camera caught Simon rolling his eyes but Simon defended himself by saying that he was talking to Paula during that time. A recording showed Chris’ comments and Simon and Paula differences on Chris’ voice sounding nasally or not. Simon said his apologies to end the confusion. Despite Simon’s cruelness otherwise, we know he is less likely to be heartless about something as tragic as the Virginia Tech deadly shooting.

Now that Simon got that problem off his chest, we are treated to another Idol group performance with all the contestants singing “I’m All Alright” on stage, with the girls sitting on the chairs, while the guys stood up; at the second half of the song, some of the girls and guys sat down. Also Ryan talked to a few people outside the Kodak Theater, where the finale will be held, asking them who is their favorite contestant and other things. Some say Blake for his beat-boxing, another mentioned Melinda describing her as humble and one guy thinks LaKisha should added a little “oomph” for the camera and Chris should be more sexy for the ladies. Maybe this guy should be hired on the show to give the contestants tips on how to work the camera and the audience.

Anyway, another Ford commercial is presented with the contestants singing ‘Flock of Seagulls’, ‘I Ran’, with an guy wearing a long coat running away with some Ford car keys but is finally catched by the contestants at the end. Next is the result show and the finalist is grouped in two groups, Sanjaya, LaKisha and Blake on the right, and Phil, Jordin Chris to the left. Melinda is left out the group, but is quickly told by Ryan that she is safe!!! But Melinda is put on the line like other past finalists before her; to go to either side she believed to belong in. Melinda at the end decided to sit down on the floor as the only one in the middle. Melinda showed class and did not decided on who suppose to be the “safe group”. Ryan told her to go to the left and of course, not surprisingly the rest is safe while the others is in the bottom three.

Before the final results of who goes home, the contestant’s works behind the scenes of ‘Shrek’ doing cool voiceovers. Maybe if this whole singing career doesn’t work, a couple of the contestants can try out as a voice actor for movies, wouldn’t be too bad at all. Before the show ends, Martina McBride performs her hit single ‘Anyway’ and afterwards brings her daughter on stage. Now back to the results, Ryan announces that Blake is safe and LaKisha and Sanjaya are left at the end. Who is going home, Sanjaya who works his magic each week or LaKisha, the powerhouse vocalist who can blow us away? Anything can happen at this moment but the person who is leaving Idol is Sanjaya. It seems that he over-stayed his welcome on the show but finally America got it right! Sanyaya seems like a sweet kid but his performance ‘Something to Talk About’, showed that he strained his voice all the way through and there is no point on keeping him on the show any further. Though he is my least favorite, I say good luck to him with whatever he pursues in his life. But the show must go on and the Idols soon get prepared for another week of singing and another spot as the show comes down to the wire.

It’s time to saddle up for country music night as the seven finalists put on their best country performance. But before the show began, there were a moment of silence for the tragic event at Virginia Tech for the 33 victims that died this past Monday.

As the show went on, this week’s coach is country star, Martina McBride. McBride so far earned numerous awards, mainly CMA awards and a Grammy nomination. Rightfully gained superstar status in her country music career, over 16 million albums sold so far. McBride prepared to give helpful advice to each contestant, and let them know that country music is similar to storytelling. Everyone took notes of McBride’s advice and determined to put a lot of effort from their rehearsal and time spent with McBride.

According to the judges, Phil’s performance were great, Jordin’s spectacular, LaKisha, not a good choice of song and Chris average at best, Melinda was the sixth contestant that put her best foot forward for McBride but before her rehearsal clip, Ryan sat her down and asked what the craziest thing a fan done. Melinda responded that a lady ran to her once saying “OMG” and Melinda ran away from her, not even wondering if the woman was a fan of hers. Melinda felt she was actually the ‘crazy’ one for running away.

Afterwards the clip was shown of Melinda singing the song of her choice, ‘Trouble Is a Woman’ by Julia Reeves. Melinda chose the song because she’d believed it was fun, told a story and a little sassy as well. As McBride wasn’t familiar with the song, but as soon as she heard Melinda’s voice, the singer said that Melinda was amazing, chosen the perfect song and sold it as well. The only problem McBride had with Melinda is her little shyness and how she needs to bring that confidence from her singing and show it when she is not performing.

Melinda came on stage, already owning it with ‘Trouble Is a Woman’ looking absolutely beautiful and once again changing her hairstyle from curly to straight and sleek which the style looked very pretty on her, in my opinion. Melinda put a lot of energy and posture to her performance and her expression showed it as well. She brought character into Reeve’s song and it served her at the ended of praises from all three of the judges. Randy deems Melinda as the resident pro; Paula says she can sing like no tomorrow and chosen the right song. As for Simon, his view of Melinda’s performance is the opposite of what he thought last week- to him it was fantastic, and he even seen a little Tina Turner in Melinda as she put attitude and sass in her voice. But he just didn’t like that Melinda still gives the oops-I-didn’t-knew-I-was-a-great-singer. Well Melinda just shows humility every time on stage, but she can work on that minor problem a bit. After this week performance, Melinda has staying power and is getting stronger every week with a voice and performance that is just perfection.
