Melinda brings sass in ‘Trouble is a Woman’
Published by alicia April 17th, 2007 in Melinda DoolittleIt’s time to saddle up for country music night as the seven finalists put on their best country performance. But before the show began, there were a moment of silence for the tragic event at Virginia Tech for the 33 victims that died this past Monday.
As the show went on, this week’s coach is country star, Martina McBride. McBride so far earned numerous awards, mainly CMA awards and a Grammy nomination. Rightfully gained superstar status in her country music career, over 16 million albums sold so far. McBride prepared to give helpful advice to each contestant, and let them know that country music is similar to storytelling. Everyone took notes of McBride’s advice and determined to put a lot of effort from their rehearsal and time spent with McBride.
According to the judges, Phil’s performance were great, Jordin’s spectacular, LaKisha, not a good choice of song and Chris average at best, Melinda was the sixth contestant that put her best foot forward for McBride but before her rehearsal clip, Ryan sat her down and asked what the craziest thing a fan done. Melinda responded that a lady ran to her once saying “OMG” and Melinda ran away from her, not even wondering if the woman was a fan of hers. Melinda felt she was actually the ‘crazy’ one for running away.
Afterwards the clip was shown of Melinda singing the song of her choice, ‘Trouble Is a Woman’ by Julia Reeves. Melinda chose the song because she’d believed it was fun, told a story and a little sassy as well. As McBride wasn’t familiar with the song, but as soon as she heard Melinda’s voice, the singer said that Melinda was amazing, chosen the perfect song and sold it as well. The only problem McBride had with Melinda is her little shyness and how she needs to bring that confidence from her singing and show it when she is not performing.
Melinda came on stage, already owning it with ‘Trouble Is a Woman’ looking absolutely beautiful and once again changing her hairstyle from curly to straight and sleek which the style looked very pretty on her, in my opinion. Melinda put a lot of energy and posture to her performance and her expression showed it as well. She brought character into Reeve’s song and it served her at the ended of praises from all three of the judges. Randy deems Melinda as the resident pro; Paula says she can sing like no tomorrow and chosen the right song. As for Simon, his view of Melinda’s performance is the opposite of what he thought last week- to him it was fantastic, and he even seen a little Tina Turner in Melinda as she put attitude and sass in her voice. But he just didn’t like that Melinda still gives the oops-I-didn’t-knew-I-was-a-great-singer. Well Melinda just shows humility every time on stage, but she can work on that minor problem a bit. After this week performance, Melinda has staying power and is getting stronger every week with a voice and performance that is just perfection.
