The Final Trio Performed- Simon Reward Melinda A Spot in Finals
Published by alicia May 16th, 2007 in Melinda DoolittleThe remaining three were left to compete Tuesday night, but only two will secure a spot in next week’s grand finale. Meanwhile, Blake, Jordin and Melinda have to push harder to win over the judges and voters as they’d sang three different songs, one from the judges, the producers and the song of their choice. Also the trio got a chance to visit their hometown. While Black and Jordin did their own thing with the songs they’d performed, Melinda entertained wonderfully throughout her three performances, not skipping a beat with them.
A clip was shown of Melinda back in her hometown in Tennessee with a crowd and Mayor of the city to announce the song ‘I Believe’ from Whitney Houston; Randy picked for Melinda. With Melinda’s strong voice, it matched perfectly with the song and her rendition of ‘I Believe’ was sung on the same level as Whitney Houston. The judges all had rave reviews for her performance, Randy said it is a difficult song to sing, but Melinda can do it, Paula think it was fantastic and the best performance of the season, Simon compared her performance to a boxing match and said, round one for Melinda.
Before her second performance, Ryan read a fan letter that questioned who was Melinda Idol growing up- Melinda answered her Mom, saying that she and her mother is the closest of friends. Awww… it’s nice to know the two share a great motherly-daughter love. Now we’re past the gushy moment, on to Melinda’s second performance from the producer’s choice, Ike and Tina Turner ‘Nutbush City Limits’. Apparently Melinda channeled Tina Turner, vocally and attitude alike, blending both together with a little rock and soul. Randy says Melinda need to put that song in her record drawer, Paula simply tells her that everyone loves her and Simon loves the side of Melinda when she performs the way she did with ‘Nutbush City Limits’.
The final song Melinda chose to sing was ‘I’m A Woman’ by Peggy Lee. Melinda put more personality and attitude than ever in this song, letting us all know that she is a W-O-M-A-N! The judges gave Melinda their props one more time, as Paula claimed that Melinda is stepping out in the spotlight but Simon seems to have his mind on Melinda ‘little striptease’ than the performance altogether. Melinda is coming out a rising star and proven herself a well-deserved spot in the finals after hard work, consistency, likeability, and raw talent. Put it all together and we have a sensational performer and this describes her thoroughly.
